Scientific Me!
When I think about my personal relationship with science throughout my years of education, I remember mostly disliking it. I’ve never been someone who finds science class that interesting. Don’t get me wrong, I like experiments and I like learning about certain science topics. I just always found science class in school to be difficult, tedious, and boring. I hated writing lab reports, and I thought some of the experiments we did were unoriginal. Now, I understand the importance science has on our every day lives. It is everywhere-- in plants, the weather, the food we eat-- everything. Science is not something we can avoid! We need it for baking or cooking dinner. We need it to use our computers and phones. As a future science teacher, I want to emphasize this to my students. More than anything, I want to get them excited about science. Helping my future students make discoveries, take control of their own learning, and allowing them to experiment in any way they desire would hopefully get them to have a positive attitude about science for the rest of their academic career. My favorite scientist, Bill Nye, once said “Science is the key to our future, and if you don’t believe in science, then you’re holding everyone back.”
